dentin bond strength of two one-bottle adhesives after delayed activation of light-cured resin composites
Authors
abstract
objective: adverse surface interactions between one-bottle adhesives and chemical-cured composites may occur with delayed light activation of light-cured composites. the purpose of this study was to assess the effects of delayed activation of light-cured composites on shear bond strength of two one-bottle adhesives with different acidity to bovine dentin. materials and methods: flat dentin surface was prepared on sixty-six bovine incisors using 600 grit carbide papers. prime&bond; nt, and one-step adhesives and resin composite were applied in six groups: 1) immediate curing of the composite, 2) the composite was left 2.5 minutes over the cured adhesive before light activation, 3) prior to delayed activation of the composite, the cured adhesive was covered with a layer of nonacidic hydrophobic porcelain bonding resin (choice 2) and cured immediately. after thermocycling, shear bond strength (sbs) test was performed using a universal testing machine at 1 mm/min crosshead speed. data were analyzed with friedmans two-way non-parametric anova. results: the sbs of delayed activation of prime&bond; was significantly lower than immediate activated (p<0.05). decrease in the sbs of one-step was not statistically significant after delayed activation. the sbs of delayed activation of prime&bond; and one- step with an additional resin layer was significantly higher than delayed activation (p<0.001). conclusion: the bond strength of prime&bond; might be compromised by the higher acidity of this adhesive during the 2.5 minutes delayed activation of light-cured composite. addition of a layer of hydrophobic resin compensated the effect of delayed activation and improved the bond strength.

OBJECTIVES This study examined the effect of one-bottle adhesives with different acidities on bonding to chemical-cured and light-cured resin composites. METHODS Twenty-four non-carious human third molars were divided into eight groups. A flat dentin surface was created for each tooth. Acid-conditioned dentin surfaces were bonded with Prime&Bond NT (Dentsply), OptiBond SOLO (Kerr), Single Bon...

Introduction: The bonding process of the brackets to enamel has been a critical issue in orthodontic research. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of 3 light-cured adhesives (transbond XT, Z250, light bond). Materials &Methods: In this study sixty extracted human premolars were collected and randomly divided into 3 test groups. All teeth were etched by 37% phosp...

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of thermo-cycling and curing mode of composites (light and chemical curing) on dentin bond strength of one all-in-one and an one-bottle bonding systems. Methods and Materials: Occlusal enamels of eighty caries-free third molars were ground with a model trimmer to create flat surfaces in superficial dentin for bonding, and random...
full textEnamel bond strengths of "one-bottle" adhesives.
PURPOSE Several "one-bottle" dental adhesives recently have been introduced. These contain hydrophilic resin monomers that should readily wet tooth surfaces. Most also contain solvents that could increase enamel bond strengths by driving out residual moisture from enamel and increasing resin penetration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate bond strengths obtained by six one-bottle bonding...
full textContraction stress and bond strength to dentinfor compatible and incompatible combinations of bonding systems and chemical and light-cured core build-up resin composites.
OBJECTIVE Recent studies have shown that adhesives containing acidic monomers combined with composites can adversely effect the polymerization reaction producing low bond strengths. This phenomenon may also occur in making composite build-ups, jeopardizing one of the key factors for a successful core build-up restoration. The aim of this study was to investigate the contraction stress developme...
